About Me

I do not remember a day without music. It is the universe’s greatest gift to creation. As a child of the sixties, I have always loved music, life, joy, and peace. I sing, hum or whistle almost non-stop. I teach music, write music, share music, encourage music.

I write songs constantly. Some are to encourage people; some to articulate truth as I hear it; many are simply for the sheer joy of the song. Because I have been given the great gift of creativity, I write the songs I hear in my head, from first draft through the exhilarating and often arduous process of full realization.

As a songwriter, my goal is to have others sing my songs – an artist to record one or more, a roomful of people to sing along during a gathering, a child to learn a life lesson from a simple chorus I have written.

I learned to sing as I was learning to talk. I began french horn lessons at age seven.  I started playing guitar at age twelve and wrote my first song that same year. I have been writing, singing and playing ever since. I play acoustic guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele and can find a simple tune on virtually any instrument put into my hands.

I typically start writing a song from an overheard phrase (“I will be okay,” “put me out of your misery,” “prayin’ rocks my socks off”) or from a theme (joy, memories, betrayal) and begin by writing a strong chorus. Often, though, a melody will pop into my head, searching for words.

To date, I have recorded six albums and written over 1200 songs. I specialize in writing for particular occasions – the theme song for Summit Academy, the title track for the Eastern Area Community album project, theme songs for camps, retreats, retirements, sermon series, guitar-themed songs for our semiannual Guitar Jam near Louisville.

Strong influences to my style are Jim Croce, Paul Simon, Roger Miller, Neil Diamond and more recently the work of Matt Maher, Paul Baloche, Ed Sheeran and the great things happening in musical theatre.

Leading music and worship for special events is one of my main areas of expertise. If you have a small or large event coming up, I can help select music for adults, youth, or children and lead the way to a fun, interactive musical experience.
I also coach bands and worship leaders who want to become more proficient at their craft.
